The tower of babel almost predictably part of the larger and greater narrative of God's story. As soon as we hear about God's embrace and promise of diversity within the RE-creation, humanity goes on to reverse this promise: "Let’s make ourselves famous so we won’t be scattered here and there across the Earth."
'Staying put' as we shall see is not what God intends for God's people (often anyway).
From there God scattered them all over the world.
How often do we try and stay put? Whether that be physically, mentally, or spiritually. God has a way of moving God's people in all circumstances.
Praying attention to what God is doing by scattering God's people is important to God's story and ours. We will see this come to fulfillment in the story of Pentecost when the Spirit of God pushes the followers of Jesus out of an upper room (their own attempt to stay put) and scatters them to the ends of the earth equipped to spread the good news.
